'The DVLA experience'

There have been some recent changes in 'Trike Law' according to the DVLA (April/May 2009)

I hope this section helps you understand the process in getting your new Trike on the road!

AVP Customs will do as much as possible to aid you and will supply the MOT and weight ticket if you require.

 .................................................................................................................................

Once your trike is near completion it needs to be weighed and MOT'd.

Take the Trike to a public weighbridge and they will give you a ticket - stating the weight in KG

You will then need a class 3 MOT.

Then off to the DVLA office

It is ALWAYS better to go down to your local DVLA office rather than post!

They will help you:

Change your logbook (V5) by filling in the appropriate changes:

Wheelpan  to Tricycle

You will need the weight ticket (as proof)

Fill in new weight on V5

The DVLA will help fill in the logbook and paperwork then THEY will send it off to DVLA main office.

A few weeks later you will recieve the V5 back and an appointment to have the Trike viewed.

The V5 should now have the new tax classification.

Once the inspection is complete (they need to see that it is a 'bolt on' system)

The paperwork will then be completed and together with your insurance you will now be able to tax the Trike!!
